Maximon is difficult to explain. He's a sort of a potent miracle worker who needs to be placated with the things he likes, especially money, tobacco, and alcohol. There are other cities which boast a representation of Maximon, but this is the only one I've seen. There was a Mayan priest doing a ceremony when I was there this time.
